I'm not going to lie, I wouldn't consider myself a cocktail connoisseur. I like my wine too much to stray. Perhaps it's the Christmas records playing non-stop that have inspired me to experiment with a festive cocktail though. There's something about the idea of drinking cocktails and listening to Christmas that just seems SO right together. Also, we entertain a lot during the Christmas season, it's one of my favourite things. When we have people over I love having pre-made cocktails ready to pick up upon arrival to start the evening off with a cheers (and stress-free on the part of the hosts - us). With a lot of help from James we came up with a simple, festive cocktail recipe to kick start the holiday season. P.S. You'll probably catch us drinking these over the weekend as we deck the halls!
Plum Ginger Simple Syrup Ingredients:
- 4 x Ripe Plums
- 1 x 1" Piece of Ginger
- 1 cup Maple Syrup
- 1 cup Water
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan on your stove top. Bring to a gentle simmer. Simmer uncovered for 30-40 minutes stirring occasionally. Strain. Allow to cool completely before using in your cocktail. This recipe make enough for quite a few cocktails. The remainder can be stored in a jar in your fridge for up to 1 month.
Ingredients per Cocktail
- 1 oz. Plum Ginger Simple Syrup
- .75 oz. Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
- 1 x Egg White
- 1.5 oz Bourbon
- 2 x Ice Cubes
- 1 Piece Candied Ginger (Garnish)
- 1 Plum Wedge (Garnish)
Add first 4 ingredients to your cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for at least 20 seconds. This will cause the egg to froth. Next, open your shaker and add a few cubes of ice. Shake a few times to chill. Pour into a coup. Garnish with 1 piece of candied ginger and a plum wedge on a cocktail stick. Enjoy! Cheers!
