Exploring YXE

Saskatoon is a beautiful city in the prairies.  (I may be partial because James is originally from Saskatoon). Although we don't make it back often I so enjoy it when we do.  A few weeks ago we took a road trip and spent the weekend in YXE.  It's a 6 hour trek from Calgary.  So, a few podcasts, some good snacks and time for conversation later we had made it.  We stayed in the most beautiful hotel with a room overlooking the river,  ate at some really lovely restaurants, found a great coffee shop, and enjoyed some much needed time away.  It's funny how sometimes life forces you to take some time away from everyday life exactly at the time it's needed.  If you find yourself in need of a road trip and some grain elevator photos here are some of the places we enjoyed and would highly recommend if you find yourself in YXE.

  • The James Hotel.  We've stayed here a few times and love it more each stay.  It's gorgeous.  It's right by the river and within walking distance to lots of great pubs, cafes and restaurants downtown.  As you can see in our vlog our room was stunning, and we had the best view in all the land.  The lounge alone is worth the trip.
  • Collective Coffee.  First on our list of things to find when we visit a new city is the best place to find good coffee.  The last time we had been to Saskatoon we happened upon Collective Coffee.  They brew good coffee and are located in a neighbourhood that has lots of great shops around.  Saturday morning we grabbed our coffee from here, walked to the Saskatoon Farmers Market, and checked out some of the local shops (including this one which is gorgeous).
  • Ayden, Little Grouse on the Prairie, The Hollows.  All within walking distance of the hotel and very highly recommended.  I love discovering great spots to eat and these are a few of the best.  We still have a list of places to check out the next time we are in Saskatoon but unfortunately there are only so many times you can go out to eat in 2 days.
