Sensitivity + Gatherings

Sensitivity + Gatherings

Have you ever spent your time doing something that leaves you with this off feeling that you just can’t shake?  Social engagements and interaction often cause this for me.  I am a pretty sensitive person.  Not sensitive as in thin skinned.  Sensitive as in I pick up on everything going on around me and absorb a lot of energy and emotion. Energy and emotion where others are able to be like a rock in water and allow it to flow over, around and off of them, not through them.  I’m more like sand in that analogy. So after social interaction I often feel like I have a lot to process.  I used to mistake this quality in myself as weakness.  Sensitivity is often equated to being weak, the opposite of strength and empowerment.  But things are only weaknesses if you own them as that.  And since sensitivity is not necessarily something I want to change about myself, instead I’ve changed the way I see it in the context of my life.  Being sensitive has now become my superpower that I’ve just started learning how to manage.

Cheers // Christmas + 2017

Cheers // Christmas + 2017

I know I'm not the only one to feel like Christmas/December has flown by this year.  It's been a busy, cold, and at times exhausting month but we've made it!  I LOVE this season, but have always felt like the build up is the best part.  Most years by the time December 25th arrives I feel so disappointed to have to consider putting away the ornaments and records until next year.  This year feels different.  I think it has to do with looking ahead.  2016 was quite a year.  It was full of the most wonderful moments and yet, was raw, and scary, and unpredictable.

Dressed In Holiday Style

Dressed In Holiday Style

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a style post.  Dressing up is one of my favourite things  (no matter how impractical given the weather) and jumpsuits happen to be my favourite thing to dress up in (also impractical because using the bathroom becomes an art).  I just couldn't say no when I came across this jumpsuit a few months ago.  I could immediately envision the entire outfit: vintage fur, gold sparkles, and a gorgeous red lip (and all the fabulous Christmas parties I would attend in that outfit).

Deck The Halls // Juniper Garland x Rhosyn

Rhosyn is a small business here in Calgary that creates stunning floral arrangements as well as curated, hand-made gift boxes.  I met Erica (the owner) when she created the flowers for my launch party (you can see that post here) and as soon as I met her I instantly liked her.  She's beautiful, kind, and super talented.  When I had the idea of running simple gorgeous green garland down our railing during for Christmas I asked her if she would like to create with me.  Amidst her running a small business and being a mom to three beautiful kids I was so excited that we were able to collaborate on this project.

Explore // Van City Guide

When I was going through Yoga Teacher Training last year an idea was presented: there may be certain places in the world that work best with your individual make-up/energy.  You know those places you visit in which everything seems to fall into place, you feel the best you've ever felt - healthy, inspired, positive, beautiful etc, the most yourself.  Ideally we'd each be able to live in the places that perpetually make us feel that way.  And, you've guessed it, Vancouver is one of those places for me.

Natural Cold Remedies

Natural Cold Remedies

Being sick is the worst.  This time of year seems to bring out the colds in people.  I was going to say there's nothing like having a cold during the winter months, but really there's no good time to get sick, and colds during the summer may even be worse.  In any case when either of us begin feeling that dreaded scratchy throat, runny nose, or itchy ears we have a natural health care regime that we promptly begin.  As per my philosophy on health and wellness I think it's important to provide your body with what it needs to fight off any illness rather than take meds to lessen the symptoms momentarily.  (Obviously there's a place for said meds too, because let's be honest, relief from that stupid one nostril being plugged for any amount of time can provide a little light at the end of the tunnel.)  Here are the things I keep on hand once those symptoms start popping up, in hopes of lessening the degree of sick.
