Drumheller // Weekend Playlist

Last weekend we adventured to Drumheller Alberta.  It's a stunning part of the world. Adventures + photos is my kind of day.  Plus its a nice little day trip and I don't know about anyone else but long drives are when James and I have the most life-giving convo.  We often end up turning the podcast off or the music way down because we get into such great conversation.  Re-connection.  It's where a lot of sparks fly for idea, thoughts, change, growth, learning etc.  Dinner and road-trips are where the magic happens.  (Which for some reason makes me think of the Seinfeld episode where George has a phone conversation with a new girl and talks about how great they are on the phone together....anyone?)

To The Mountains!

To The Mountains!

I often wonder if people from other places of the world forget to explore and visit the beauty that surrounds them as often as we do with the mountains.  For example, if I lived in London would I forget to explore the castles, history, and museums in every direction just because I was used to them being there?  It may just be our lifestyle that doesn't often take us to the mountains, or maybe we've taken them for granted in being so close for so long.  After this weekend, however,  I was reminded of how we need to make more time for weekend drives West.  There's something about that mountain air, feeling so small in the majesty of the mountains and wilderness, and the simple act of getting out of the city.

Explore // Sundance Lodges Kananaskis

Two years ago I set out to plan a memorable 30th birthday party for James.  I wanted to do something he would never expect.  Something our close friends could join us in doing.  Something that he would love.  My first idea was to host a catered backyard party with a beer tasting somehow included.  As I began getting quotes and working out the logistics it just didn't feel right.  It felt too fancy and silly to spend so much on one night.  The idea of friends, outdoors, good food and beer stuck, however.   As I continued to research I found Sundance Lodges.  Located about 45 minutes from Calgary in Kananaskis Country it's a campground with both tipis and trappers tents you can rent nightly and stay in!  It was an epic surprise and we loved the experience so much we've gone back each summer since.
