Dressed In Holiday Style

Dressed In Holiday Style

Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a style post.  Dressing up is one of my favourite things  (no matter how impractical given the weather) and jumpsuits happen to be my favourite thing to dress up in (also impractical because using the bathroom becomes an art).  I just couldn't say no when I came across this jumpsuit a few months ago.  I could immediately envision the entire outfit: vintage fur, gold sparkles, and a gorgeous red lip (and all the fabulous Christmas parties I would attend in that outfit).

Cozy Home

Cozy Home

I know I'm not the only one who feels like hibernating when the snow starts to fall.  There's something so romantic about spending snowy nights cozied up with good food, wine, and candles at home.  It's snowed a few times in Calgary, although up until this point it hasn't stuck. As the snow and Christmas near I've been spending time adding elements to our home that make it feel ready for those cozy snowy nights.  Here are a few ways I've made our house hibernation friendly for the impending winter months.

Style // Finally Fall

Style // Finally Fall

Weather is a big topic of conversation in Calgary.  Truth be told, Calgarians are never very happy with the weather.  The only chance Mother Nature has in winning our favour is when it's November, we are anticipating snow and instead, we get 20+ degree celsius temps.  We never had a chance for fall until this last week happened.

Natural Cold Remedies

Natural Cold Remedies

Being sick is the worst.  This time of year seems to bring out the colds in people.  I was going to say there's nothing like having a cold during the winter months, but really there's no good time to get sick, and colds during the summer may even be worse.  In any case when either of us begin feeling that dreaded scratchy throat, runny nose, or itchy ears we have a natural health care regime that we promptly begin.  As per my philosophy on health and wellness I think it's important to provide your body with what it needs to fight off any illness rather than take meds to lessen the symptoms momentarily.  (Obviously there's a place for said meds too, because let's be honest, relief from that stupid one nostril being plugged for any amount of time can provide a little light at the end of the tunnel.)  Here are the things I keep on hand once those symptoms start popping up, in hopes of lessening the degree of sick.

Life Lately

Life Lately

Happy Friday!  It's nearing the end of Oct. and it's been a long while since I last wrote a "Life Lately" Post.  This time of year is always very transitional for us.  Gearing up for winter is not always easy when part of it requires James to build homes starting in December, which means him working outdoors. As the start date is getting closer and closer I begin feeling an urgency to nest.  Home needs to be a place that is somewhere we want to hibernate for the colder months.  Somewhere that supports health and wellness and wellbeing and that allows James to re-cooperate after each work day.  It's amazing what a difference the colder months can make.  Adjusting to the shorter hours of day-light, the chilled-to-the-bone kind of cold, can all take a toll psychologically, physically and energetically.  This

Wellness // Journaling

Wellness // Journaling

Health and wellness are important parts of my life.  It's something I feel really passionate about in myself and others.  I take time to invest in myself in this way often.  Journaling has played a part of my health and wellness routine for a long time.  Growing up I didn't keep a diary exactly but I journaled my way through life.  It was a ritual.  It was therapy.  It was a release.

Binge Watch // True Crime

Binge Watch // True Crime

The weather is cold, it's Friday, and Halloween is a few weeks away.  I thought it would be a good time to share some more of my favourite documentaries.  True Crime seemed appropriate.  I feel like my taste in all shows varies and yet is very specific.  So, we're jumping from inspiring women and fashion (find that post here) right into True Crime. Two of my favourite topics.  (It's okay if you're confused by this. There's no rhyme or reason for taste).  I happen to enjoy a good True Crime flick more than James does but I'm certain that even he agrees that these are worth watching.  I'm including True Crime Podcasts in this list because I've listened to a few amazing ones in the last little while and couldn't not add them.  Plus, once you've started you won't be able to stop.  As the weather gets colder and home seems like the right choice, settle in and get ready for a good (albeit creepy) binge watch.  (Also, don't google any of these or you'll be bombarded by spoilers.)

Gratitude

Gratitude

Today we are still on weekend mode since it's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada.  I couldn't be happier about it either.  This weekend the weather decided fall is over and winter is here.  Although it all melts by the end of the day, each morning when we wake up the world is a winter wonderland.  Which means long lazy days in bed.  It's been glorious.  The only plans that the snow has squashed was going to the pumpkin patch today (no pun intended) ..who wants to go to a pumpkin patch in the snow? So, instead we will enjoy the slowness and hibernation that this weather brings.
