Wellness // Green Smoothie Recipe

Wellness // Green Smoothie Recipe

The night we arrived home from our trip to Vancouver in November James and I watched a documentary.  We love documentaries, and we have always been particularly interested in issues about health and wellness.  I don't really know what it was about this documentary in particular that struck us.  Honestly I think it was more that the timing was right.  We'd watched plenty of documentaries, read all of Michael Pollan's books, and altered and changed things in our diets many times over.  But since that night, watching that documentary, we haven't eaten any meat.

2017

2017

2017 and it feels so right.  Entering into a New Year has become a process and ritual for us.  There's a lot of journaling, dreaming, evaluating, planning, discussing and intention that goes into the last days of December and the first days of January.  The only parameter we put around goal setting is this:  Have a vision that's bigger than our resources.

Cocktails // Plum+Ginger Whiskey Sour

Cocktails // Plum+Ginger Whiskey Sour

I'm not going to lie, I wouldn't consider myself a cocktail connoisseur.  I like my wine too much to stray.  Perhaps it's the Christmas records playing non-stop that have inspired me to experiment with a festive cocktail though.  There's something about the idea of drinking cocktails and listening to Christmas that just seems SO right together.  Also, we entertain a lot during the Christmas season, it's one of my favourite things.  When we have people over I love having pre-made cocktails ready to pick up upon arrival to start the evening off with a cheers (and stress-free on the part of the hosts - us).  With a lot of help from James we came up with a simple, festive cocktail recipe to kick start the holiday season.  P.S. You'll probably catch us drinking these over the weekend as we deck the halls!

Cozy Home

Cozy Home

I know I'm not the only one who feels like hibernating when the snow starts to fall.  There's something so romantic about spending snowy nights cozied up with good food, wine, and candles at home.  It's snowed a few times in Calgary, although up until this point it hasn't stuck. As the snow and Christmas near I've been spending time adding elements to our home that make it feel ready for those cozy snowy nights.  Here are a few ways I've made our house hibernation friendly for the impending winter months.

Explore // Van City Guide

When I was going through Yoga Teacher Training last year an idea was presented: there may be certain places in the world that work best with your individual make-up/energy.  You know those places you visit in which everything seems to fall into place, you feel the best you've ever felt - healthy, inspired, positive, beautiful etc, the most yourself.  Ideally we'd each be able to live in the places that perpetually make us feel that way.  And, you've guessed it, Vancouver is one of those places for me.

Style // Finally Fall

Style // Finally Fall

Weather is a big topic of conversation in Calgary.  Truth be told, Calgarians are never very happy with the weather.  The only chance Mother Nature has in winning our favour is when it's November, we are anticipating snow and instead, we get 20+ degree celsius temps.  We never had a chance for fall until this last week happened.

Life Lately

Life Lately

Happy Friday!  It's nearing the end of Oct. and it's been a long while since I last wrote a "Life Lately" Post.  This time of year is always very transitional for us.  Gearing up for winter is not always easy when part of it requires James to build homes starting in December, which means him working outdoors. As the start date is getting closer and closer I begin feeling an urgency to nest.  Home needs to be a place that is somewhere we want to hibernate for the colder months.  Somewhere that supports health and wellness and wellbeing and that allows James to re-cooperate after each work day.  It's amazing what a difference the colder months can make.  Adjusting to the shorter hours of day-light, the chilled-to-the-bone kind of cold, can all take a toll psychologically, physically and energetically.  This
